About
Built one corridor at a time
CrossBorder Estate is an information site for people dealing with an estate that crosses borders. Guides are organised by corridor, starting with UK–Spain. We explain the process in plain English and, in time, will point you to independent advisers who meet published criteria.
Why this site exists
A cross-border estate involves two legal systems, two languages and, usually, an adviser on each side. Heirs and executors often have to work out what happens in which country before they know whom to ask. This site is meant to make that first stage clearer.
One corridor, to start
Guides are organised by corridor: a pair of countries and the people dealing with estates between them. The first corridor is UK–Spain, for UK-resident heirs and executors dealing with Spanish assets. Rather than building a shallow global directory, we concentrate on one corridor’s legal sources, terminology and process at a time.
What we are, and what we are not
- An information site and a place to start.
- Not a law firm. We give no legal advice and there is no lawyer-client relationship with us.
- We do not handle cases. Advisers we list are independent of us.
How the guides are made
Guides are drafted from legislation and official sources. Each one lists the sources it relies on and shows the date it was last updated against them.
